Excessive perspiration can negatively affect a person’s productivity on the job, according to new research that supports what many people have always believed to be true.

The International Hyperhidrosis Society cites recent research that was reported at an annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in San Francisco, when it said that employees who suffered from excessive sweating were impaired 25% of the time when performing tasks that were physically demanding, 20% of the time when engaged in interpersonal or mentally challenging tasks, were deficient in time management skills 17% of the time and in the quantity of work performed 11% of the time.

The study also reported that the occurrence of these limitations was comparable to that of employees who have rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and depression. The report estimated that the loss in productivity overall among hyperhidrosis sufferers is 4.9%
